The job of these garage door parts is to enable the door to move smoothly up and down and to follow the tracks precisely. They consist of two parts - the stem and the roller head. The stem is attached to the garage door panel via a hinge while the roller head moves along the track.
There are two types of garage door rollers in terms of make. The metal ones have a body which is entirely made from metal. The material is corrosion-resistant. The nylon rollers have metal stem and nylon head. While the metal parts require lubrication to move smoothly along the track without making noise, the nylon ones do not. Lubricant must not be applied to them. The two most common roller sizes are 2 inches and 4 inches. They are determined by the diameter of the head which must fit inside the track. The 2-inch models are most commonly used in residential garage doors.
